Serena Pelka

Serena Pelka is the Zero Waste Lead at the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation where she provides environmental consulting services across the San Diego region and works to build a more connected and sustainable community through public education and outreach.

Serena has worked in local government, at various non-profits, in academia, and with community and faith-based organizations. As a Climate Fellow for the City of Del Mar in the 2019-2020 service year, she built capacity for the implementation of the city’s Climate Action Plan and developed greenhouse gas monitoring and reporting.

She is from Ontario, Canada where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, Honours degree in Environmental Governance from the University of Guelph and graduated with a Master of Development Practice from the University of Waterloo. She has volunteered and engaged in research focused on environmental justice and social equity and is dedicated to building community resilience through the intersection of these issues. 

Serena looks forward to talking with current Fellows about climate action plans, greenhouse gas inventories, organic waste diversion, zero waste, and graduate school.
