Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Marina Mendes holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Colorado College. During her undergraduate career, she wrote for her school’s environmental newspaper, rallied students to vote in favor of closing of the city’s largest coal plant, designed her own line of sustainable clothing, and composed articles on a range of sustainability topics as en editorial intern. Marina has been dedicated to public service for nearly a decade, and spent the year after her college graduation serving with AmeriCorps City Year – an educational nonprofit that aims to close gaps in high-need schools throughout America. She is grateful to be serving another year with AmeriCorps, and excited to shift her professional focus back towards the environment. She joined CivicSpark because she is specifically interested in learning about sustainability at the local government, grassroots level.
