Ariege Besson

Region: Bay Area

Project(s): San Francisco Department of the Environment (SF Environment) Email: abesson@civicspark.lgc.org Fellow Bio:

Ariege is originally from Colorado but fell in love with California in high school, when she visited while training with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. She enjoys dancing, folk music, and any activity that’s vaguely acrobatic; her quarantine pursuits included learning to play Spanish guitar and trying to hold a handstand. She also enjoys climbing and hiking, particularly in desert landscapes.

Ariege holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale with majors in Ethnic Studies and Earth & Planetary science. She is passionate about a range of policy topics including environmental justice, housing, transit and social policy, and looks forward to learning about processes and change at the local government level.

She is thrilled to be working for the San Francisco’s Department of the Environment for the coming year, and hopes to help bring about a more just present and future for the people of San Francisco.
