Itzel Torres was born and raised in Oxnard, California and is a first-generation college graduate from the University of California Berkeley. At UC Berkeley, she obtained her degree in Urban Studies with a focus in architecture, city and regional planning, and sustainable design. After graduating she worked at a small architecture and planning firm as an urban planner in the Mission District in San Francisco. She hopes to continue pursuing a career in which the intersections of environmental design meet equitable and sustainable policy measures that protect communities of color. Itzel’s strong commitment to build resilient, sustainable, equitable cities, and communities led her to want to be part of an organization, like Civic Spark. Through the organization she hopes to continue learning more about sustainability within the local government setting. She is excited to return to Ventura County and continue engaging in her passions and bringing her knowledge of building sustainable and energy efficient cities and communities to the Tri-County Regional Energy Network.
