Fellow Bio:

Jessica Cervantes was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California and is a first-generation college graduate from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. At Vassar College, she double majored in Environmental Studies and Latinx Studies with a focus on environmental policy, environmental racism, and food justice. Jessica’s strong commitment to environmental justice and being part of the collective that moves towards creating a sustainable future that is just stems from her identity as a child of immigrants and her upbringing in her community of East Los Angeles. Her commitment to environmental justice and to her community led her to return home upon graduation with the goal of becoming part of an organization, like CivicSpark, where she could continue actively engaging in her passion for environmental justice in communities of color, including her community. Through the CivicSpark fellowship, Jessica hopes to gain professional experience working on climate change issues and their intersection with public health.
